About This Event
This program includes selections from great tango masters from the 1930s to the present: Alfredo Gobbi, Francisco Canaro, Osvaldo Pugliese, the revolutionary Astor Piazzolla and evolving even further, Pedro Giraudo. In this program, the ensemble offers the audience insight into how tango evolved from marginal venues to cafes and dance halls, and finally to prominent concert halls. The musical journey will be accompanied by short anecdotes about the main figures in the history of tango, as well as some explanation of the principal rhythms of the genre (milonga, waltz, and tango).
This event is presented by Rites of Spring Music Festival in collaboration with North Fork Arts Center in the frame of Energia Internacional program.

They have collaborated with renowned institutions like the Chesapeake Orchestra and the Yonkers Philharmonic, and have led workshops at Dartmouth College, the University of Maryland, and the University of Arizona, inspiring the next generation of musicians and tango enthusiasts alike.
Pedro Giraudo’s illustrious career spans over two decades of performing with the most revered figures in tango. As a bassist, composer, and arranger, he has collaborated with luminaries including Ruben Blades (on the GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY-winning album Tangos), Paquito D’Rivera, Pablo Ziegler, Hector Del Curto, and Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango. Additionally, he has worked with one of NYC’s most prestigious institutions, the New York Philharmonic, and has performed on several occasions with the New York City Ballet Orchestra.
