The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) is the world's leading philanthropic organization dedicated to funding life-saving prostate cancer research. Founded in 1993 by Mike Milken following his own prostate cancer diagnosis, PCF has raised more than $1 billion to support cutting-edge research across more than 2,615 projects at 312 leading cancer centers in 29 countries, leading to 15 FDA approved drugs. When the organization launched, prostate cancer research was underfunded, awareness was low, and treatment options for advanced disease were extremely limited. PCF pioneered a new funding model that prioritized speed, collaboration, and ambition, helping to spur a 20-fold increase in government funding and contributing to a more than 50 percent decline in the prostate cancer death rate since its founding. Today, an estimated 1.5 million men are alive thanks in part to innovations in research and treatment supported by PCF, which remains committed to ending death and suffering from the disease.
With Cancer being the leading cause of death among firefighters, 100 percent of our Charities goes directly to our members and their families for help them fight the battle. The Local 493 and its Charities represents 6 cities. Phoenix, Tempe , Chandler , Surprise, Peoria , and Glendale.
