From Fitrah to Function Classroom Management in Islamic Schools
A 5-Week Professional Learning Community for Islamic School Leaders, Educators, Parents, & Community Members
- Tuesdays, November 3rd though December 8th (no class on November 24th)
- Start Time: 7 pm EST | 6 pm CST | 4 pm PST
- 90 minutes
- Virtual via Zoom
Course Information:
- Informational email to be sent out to all registrants on October 20th
- Approximately 20-30 minutes of coursework each week
- Attendance in live sessions, participation, coursework, and completion of feedback survey is required to obtain a Certificate of Participation for this course.
Sessions:
Tuesdays, November 3rd thru December 8th, skipping Nov. 24th of Thanksgiving week
- Week 1: The Child's Fitrah: The Foundation
- Ground your classroom practice in an understanding of the child's fitrah, its expressions, and explore which practices nurture or suppress it.
- Week 2: Fitrah & Behavior
- Rethink behavior management and apply proactive, Prophetic strategies to prevent behavior challenges before they escalate.
- Week 3: Fitrah & Intervention
- Respond to challenging behavior with a compassionate, effective balance of guidance and accountability through conversations and consequences that support growth and repair.
- Week 4: Fitrah & Structure
- Proactively design predictable routines, procedures, transitions, and classroom systems that help prevent chaos or behavior issues
- Week 5: Supporting Neurodivergent Learners (with Guest Speaker Dr. Nelly)
- Learn practical ways to better understand, support, and include neurodivergent learners in the classroom.
Speaker BIOS:
Asmaa Albadawi is the founder of Reach & Teach Instructional Coaching, supporting Islamic schools and Muslim educators with practical, faith-based professional development. A product of Islamic schooling herself, she is deeply passionate about Islamic education and committed to supporting the teachers and schools serving Muslim students.
With 20 years of combined experience in Islamic school teaching, instructional coaching, and higher education faculty development, she holds a Master’s in Teaching, a Graduate Certificate in Teacher Leadership & Coaching, dual teaching certifications in Science and English Language Arts, and a Certificate in Islamic School Teaching. She developed The FITRAH Framework, her signature proactive classroom management system for Islamic schools. She also serves as Curriculum Editor at Yaqeen Institute, developing Islamic studies curricula for Muslim students.
Dr. Nelly Kaakaty is a mother, educator, and writer dedicated to creating more accessible classrooms. For over 13 years, she has worked as an educational therapist, researcher, and professor, supporting learners with diverse needs. She earned her Bachelor’s from the University of Texas at Dallas and her Master’s and Doctorate in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Special Education from East Texas A&M University. Dr. Kaakaty volunteers at her children’s Islamic school, partnering with educators to strengthen student support. She currently serves as a learning specialist at an independent school and teaches psychology at a local community college.

All ISLA Events are subject to capacity limits for both a minimum and maximum number of registrants. If the minimum threshold is not met, then the course will be postponed, registrants informed, and all fees paid will be refunded. If the event reaches maximum capacity, the registration may be closed early.
