I discovered VVF during a chance meeting with Susan Stover at a bagel shop, which led my family to become financial supporters and join the Board of Directors.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role on the Board is evaluating scholarship applications and sharing the exciting news with recipients. Each story is unique and deeply moving, leaving me inspired and hopeful.  I think of this family often:

Leyton (12) and Lyjah (15), brothers with spina bifida, are two individuals whose lives have been transformed by VVF. Leyton, who is nonverbal and relies on a wheelchair or medical stroller, faced significant challenges as he grew. His family’s insurance denied their request for a new medical stroller, citing a recent wheelchair purchase. Thanks to a VVF scholarship, Leyton received a new medical stroller, greatly improving his mobility, quality of life, and easing the physical strain on his parents.

Lyjah, an enthusiastic and active 15-year-old, needed a specialized sports wheelchair to continue playing wheelchair basketball. His current chair had become unsafe due to his growth. Despite his family’s efforts to save for a new chair, they needed additional support. VVF awarded Lyjah a scholarship, enabling him to obtain a new wheelchair and continue pursuing his passion for basketball. Below is a snapshot of Lyjah receiving the news of his scholarship:

I am lucky, my family is lucky and I’ve learned that luck can change in an instant. An injury or illness can alter daily life unexpectedly, bringing challenges such as limited access to therapy, service providers, and insurance coverage. VVF steps in to provide critical resources, support, and hope, making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

It is a privilege to be part of this mission and to witness firsthand the positive impact VVF has on individuals and families facing these challenges.

Please consider making a donation today to support the ongoing work of VVF. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact and change lives for the better.

Seven years ago when VVF opened their doors 48% of their recipients were not injured or diagnosed at that time.

Did you know that a new spinal cord injury occurs every 48 minutes in the US?

The need is growing every day.

Help VVF prepare for the next 7 years and beyond.
