What is Fast-a-thon?
The Fast-a-thon Gala is a charity banquet encouraging students, faculty, and members of the Lubbock and Texas Tech community to pledge to fast or give up an item of their choice (i.e. coffee, social media, sweets) for one day from sunrise to sunset. The premise for the Fast-a-thon is the Islamic practice of fasting during Ramadan. This year, Ramadan will be held from around March 10th to April 8th, and by holding this event we hope to promote inclusivity and diversity within our campus.

What is Islamic Relief (IR)?
Islamic Relief USA provides relief and development in a dignified manner regardless of gender, race, or religion, and works to empower individuals in their communities and give them a voice in the world. Keep an eye out for the campaign details that will elaborate on our charity cause as we get closer to the time of the banquet!

How to Help Children in Need

There are roughly 153 million orphans worldwide. And every day, nearly 6,000 more children become orphans. To add, one in five children lives in a conflict or war zone, and studies show that these children are at high risk of experiencing violence, psychological stress, hunger, loss of education, and/or lack of access to basic resources. Over 12 million refugee boys and girls have not only lost their homes, but are no longer able to make a future for themselves.

“The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ‘I and the one who looks after an orphan will be like this in Paradise,’ showing his middle and index fingers and separating them.” (Bukhari)
