Grief, Loss & Bereavement: A Pastoral Care Thread Gathering, October 19th, 2024 -- 9:30am - 4:00pm
at Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting

Friends are invited to join for a day of sharing, learning, and working together on the topic of pastoral care focused on grief. In the morning panel we will explore the ways monthly meetings address care for grieving, with examples from meetings who are rising to meet the needs of their community. In the afternoon there will be workshops that address grief and loss throughout the lifespan and beyond the personal. This may include loss of a loved one, grief about global wars or climate change, or a personal experience of loss that might be a leading ready for witness.   

Friends are encouraged to join if you are currently serving in a pastoral care role in your meeting, feel led to explore experiences of grief in community, or if you feel a calling to offer pastoral care in these times.

• 10:15 Small break out group discussion: The role of Meetings in grief, loss and pastoral care
• 12:00 Lunch - bring your own packed lunch, PYM will provide snacks and beverages
• 1:00 Workshops:
  • Sound and Silence Grief Circle (for grief of all kinds): with Rev. Rhetta Morgan
  • Sharing our Losses of Loved Ones with the Support of Spirit, Meditation, and Song : A workshop with Molly Hicks and George Salloom
  • Creating your Advance Directives and End of Life Plan : a workshop with Susan Hoskins and Susan Garrison
• 2:30 Gather for Reflections on the Day
• 3:30 Closing worship
• 4:00 Farewell
