About the Event
As abortion access continues to shift across the country, confusion and fear remain widespread—especially for health care providers, advocates, and patients navigating care in hostile legal environments.
As part of Whole Woman’s Health Alliance’s 10th Anniversary Virtual Celebration Series, this timely conversation brings together leading legal experts and reproductive health care leaders to clarify what patients and providers can do—and what their rights are—in both banned and protected states.
Drawing on decades of legal and movement experience, speakers will break down the current legal landscape, including recent efforts to clarify Texas law around abortion referrals and counseling. This discussion is designed to be informative, grounding, and empowering during an uncertain moment.
Whether you are a provider, patient, advocate, or ally, this is an essential conversation about rights, resilience, and the path forward.

She began her work in reproductive rights in 1990 as a lobbyist for the Idaho Chapter of the ACLU and later served as State Legislative Counsel for the Center for Reproductive Rights, where she helped providers fight restrictive legislation and build proactive protections.
Over more than 25 years with the Center for Reproductive Rights, Janet represented abortion providers across the country in litigation challenging state and federal restrictions, including serving as lead counsel in the case that established abortion as a fundamental right under the Kansas Constitution. In 2018, she became Director of Regulatory Assistance for Abortion Providers (RAAP), a division of Resources for Abortion Providers, offering critical compliance guidance on issues including TRAP laws, telehealth, and medication abortion. Janet retired from the full-time practice of law at the end of 2024.

Since then, he has overseen critical post-Roe litigation involving obstetric emergency care and abortion access in states including Texas, Tennessee, and Idaho. Prior to joining the Center, Marc was a partner in the Appellate and Supreme Court practice at Morrison & Foerster.
