Kayla Day embodies the true spirit of systemic advocacy and family empowerment. As the founder and president of A Parent’s Promise Inc., a faith-based nonprofit, she dedicates her life to connecting families with essential community resources and compassionate support.

Kayla’s journey began after navigating the complex medical care and eventual Prader–Willi syndrome diagnosis of her daughter, Luella. Driven by a deep commitment to ensuring every family feels heard, she turned personal experience into lifelong purpose. Kayla serves as a Parent Mentor with PWSA | USA, a Peer Supporter with Parent to Parent of Pennsylvania, and an active member of Pennsylvania’s Rare Disease Advisory Council. Additionally, as a Parent Educator at Beginnings Inc., she provides families with guidance to navigate complex systems of care. Guided by her faith and a determination to be a light for others, Kayla empowers parents to advocate boldly for their children, ensuring families receive the dignity, hope, and community inclusion they deserve.

Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, founded by Christopher J. Beers, has grown from its original Pittsburgh location in 2012 to a thriving business spanning 23 retail locations and servicing 20,000 independent retailers nationwide. Famous for its whimsical treats and community presence, the company is equally remarkable for its dedication to competitive-integrated employment.

Through strong community partnerships with organizations like Achieva, Christopher Beers has championed inclusive hiring, creating meaningful jobs where employees with disabilities earn competitive wages and build lasting skills. By integrating individuals with diverse abilities across retail and warehouse operations, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop demonstrates that inclusive employment enriches company culture while strengthening the entire workforce. Christopher’s vision challenges the broader business community to recognize talent, foster belonging, and create workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

Jessica Rafferty, an attorney specializing in estate planning, estate administration, and elder law, has spent over 17 years using her legal skills to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families. Her practice focuses on creating comprehensive, personalized strategies that provide long-term peace of mind and financial security.

Recognized as a Super Lawyers "Rising Star" and named to The National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40, Jessica has also earned membership in the prestigious Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Her legal precision is matched only by her deep community commitment. Beginning her career in public service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras, she has continuously served on local boards, including HEAL Animal Rescue and Regional Integrated Human Services. Jessica’s combination of legal excellence, compassion, and active leadership makes her a powerful advocate for equal rights and secure futures.

Robin Fox demonstrates an unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive, welcoming community for individuals facing serious mental health challenges. As a Blended Case Manager, Robin views her role as far more than a job—it is a personal calling rooted in empathy, respect, and deep human connection.

Every day, Robin works tirelessly to connect individuals with essential services, navigate difficult times, and provide a constant reminder that no one has to walk their path alone. She firmly believes that every person deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to succeed, celebrating every milestone along the journey toward recovery. For Robin, helping others build meaningful lives is her greatest passion. Grounded by her deep love for her family—including her five adult children and cherished grandchildren—she serves as a shining example of selfless community support. Achieva is proud to honor Robin for her heart, dedication, and quietly transformational work.

Michael Duckworth is a trusted wealth management leader who has devoted his career to helping families impacted by medical complexity and disability secure their financial futures. As a founding member of The Duckworth Haggerty Group at Merrill Private Wealth Management, Michael has pioneered specialized financial planning strategies tailored to the unique needs of the disability community.

Since 2018, Michael’s partnership with the Achieva Family Trust has enabled over 50 individuals with special needs to receive expert financial stewardship. In 2025, he co-founded Bank of America’s inaugural Autism Innovation and Impact Forum, driving national awareness and advocating across the financial services industry for broader advisor engagement. A University of Pittsburgh graduate and active civic leader, Michael exemplifies professional excellence and heartfelt advocacy, expanding access, resources, and peace of mind for families across our region.

Chris Hoffman is an Emmy Award-winning journalist with KDKA-TV who consistently uses his platform to share stories that inform, inspire, and elevate the disability community. A native of Crescent Township and a graduate of Point Park University, Chris brings deep empathy and local heart to his reporting.

Throughout his career, Chris has covered major national and regional news, earning widespread recognition for his balanced and impactful storytelling. His commitment to highlighting disability issues—such as reporting on competitive employment initiatives and community inclusion—helps break down barriers and change public perceptions. By giving individuals with disabilities a platform to share their authentic voices, Chris showcases the possibilities created when communities provide equal access and support. Achieva honors Chris for his dedication to meaningful, inclusive journalism that strengthens our region.

Sara Nye, 23, of Central Pennsylvania, lives by the principle that her abilities far outweigh any disability. A vibrant and courageous advocate, Sara uses her personal experiences to educate, inspire, and break down societal barriers for individuals with disabilities.

Sara shares her knowledge through interactive workshops, presentations, disability awareness trainings, and legislative advocacy. Her passion and leadership led to her appointment to the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on People with Disabilities, where she speaks out on critical policy issues. Whether engaging with law enforcement, elected officials, or peers, Sara connects effortlessly with others. Outside of advocacy, she enjoys music, dancing, sports, and living history. Sara inspires everyone around her to step outside their comfort zones, embrace their abilities, and live life to the fullest.

Dorian (Ian) Haigh is a senior at Spectrum Charter School and Forbes Road Career and Technology Center, where he studies Emergency Medical Services. Embracing his community with enthusiasm and purpose, Dorian serves as a volunteer firefighter and an active youth advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities.

At Spectrum Charter School, Dorian consistently advocates for his peers, engaging in constructive dialogue with teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure equitable learning supports across the school. His dedication, courage, and service embody the spirit of Cecil and David Rosenthal, demonstrating how fully embracing one’s community creates mutual respect, connection, and belonging. Dorian’s leadership as a first responder and student leader inspires everyone around him to realize their full potential and lead lives of personal significance.

Andrew Fee serves as Vice President at Special Olympics Pennsylvania, where he builds dynamic community relationships that advance inclusion and open doors for athletes statewide. His career in sports leadership and coaching at Geneva College ignited his passion for inclusive athletics and lifelong community service.

In addition to serving on the board of Life’sWork of Western PA, Andrew and his wife, Lis, coach Special Olympics softball together. Sharing the field with their athletes allows Andrew to connect personally with the mission he advances daily: building confidence, fostering friendships, and creating true belonging. Andrew’s extraordinary leadership was showcased when his swift action prevented a vulnerable family from being separated into institutional settings, preserving their unity and community living. He exemplifies the visionary community leadership honored by this award.

Kristin Rebstock is a dedicated volunteer leader and advocate whose vision and generosity of spirit embody the legacy of Joe Ott. Working professionally as a quality analyst for Aetna Medicare, Kristin brings patience and compassion to helping members navigate their healthcare needs.

Kristin’s advocacy journey gained momentum when she served as the 2010 Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania titleholder, an experience that built her confidence as a public voice. She later joined the organization’s board, serving as vice president before becoming state coordinator in 2022. Through her leadership, Kristin established a supportive network of advocates who share resources and empower one another. Also an active member of the Variety Movement Board, Kristin donates her time to peer support, community outreach, and accessibility initiatives, ensuring everyone receives dignity, opportunity, and support.

Patrick Link is an inspiring self-advocate in Achieva’s Community Living program who uses his voice to shape his own path and create opportunities for others. Embracing the LifeCourse Framework, Pat actively pursues his personal vision for an independent, fulfilling life.

Pat takes great pride in assisting others and is currently seeking employment to contribute even further to his community. Beyond his personal career goals, Pat made a groundbreaking impact by advocating to participate in candidate interview panels for prospective Achieva staff, ensuring individuals receiving services have a direct voice in hiring decisions. In his free time, Pat enjoys staying active at the gym, playing video games, and listening to 90s and 2000s music. Pat’s leadership, determination, and community focus perfectly exemplify empowered living and self-determination.

Liz Healey has devoted her lifetime to championing the rights of individuals with severe disabilities and complex medical needs, ensuring they have the opportunity to live full lives within their communities. As the founding Executive Director of the Parent Education and Advocacy Leadership (PEAL) Center, Liz transformed parent support and educational advocacy across Pennsylvania.

Liz’s advocacy began with the birth of her daughter, driving her to co-found the Imagine Different - Achieve Different Coalition in 2014 to help children leave congregate care for nurturing family homes. Appointed in 2019 to the PA Office of Medical Assistance Advisory Council’s Consumer Subcommittee, she consistently amplified the voices of medically complex families. Now serving on the FISA Foundation Board, Liz’s legacy of visionary leadership continues to inspire and empower generations of advocates.
