About This Event
Combining a well-worn, well-loved vintage quilt with an antique window sash is a beautiful way to preserve history and create a striking piece of art. Quilts that are too fragile to be used on a bed can find a second life when framed in an old window.
In this two-part workshop you will work with designer and quilter Teri Goodenbour of Brookside Cabin Crafts and AARCH Salvage Warehouse Director Christine Bush to create a one-of-a-kind art piece that highlights the unique story and craftsmanship of both the window and the quilt.
Day 1 | Sunday, October 25 | 1:00pm – 3:00 pm*
AARCH will provide a wide selection of historic window sashes for you to choose from. We will provide a brief overview of the anatomy, history, and styles of window sash. Then, working with Teri, you will select a window sash that best tells the story of your quilt.
After selecting your sash, you will decide how you would like to finish the frame: paint, stain, shellac, etc. If time allows, we will begin preparing the frames. Participants may choose to bring their sash home to prepare them or leave them at the warehouse to be finished by Teri and Christine.
Day 2 | Sunday, November 8 | 1:00pm - 3:00 pm*
Working with Teri we will cut, prepare quilts and wood backing, and mount the quilts in the windows.
All materials (except quilt or other textile) will be provided. Upon request, limited quilts may be available. Participants will leave with a finished project ready to display or give as a gift!
The fee is $60 for AARCH members and $70 for non-members. This event is first-come, first-served.
*Participants are welcome to stay later.
