About This Event
Throughout much of the past, everything was shaped by hand, in the Adirondacks and beyond. Woodworking in particular requires the skilled hand of a dedicated artisan. This time-honored craft includes structural carpentry, interior finishes, and even crafting furniture and tools. Through this workshop, we aim to preserve the traditional techniques embodied in the hand-crafted wooden objects all around us. This introduction to woodworking offers participants valuable hands-on experience with the materials, tools, and skills that underlie this ancient craft. During this guided exercise with craftsman Marcus Soto at Whallonsburg’s Whitcomb’s Garage, participants will learn how to identify the many properties and uses of wood. Attendees will learn to use both hand and power tools to create a wooden stool as a keepsake of their experience. This workshop is great for curious individuals of any skill level who want to learn more.
This workshop is led by Marcus Soto of Sojen Design.
This tour is first-come, first-served. Lunch from River & Rails Market & Deli is included.
This project is funded, in part, by grants from the National Trust Preservation Fund of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Historic Preservation Education Foundation.
