Rifle & Marksmanship Training April 18, 2026

About This Event

This full-day course is designed for new or first-time hunters and provides foundational instruction on bolt-action rifles in a safe, controlled environment. The class will be taught by professional firearms instructors with extensive experience working with new shooters. Classroom and live fire instruction will be conducted at Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds.

Rifle rentals are available for a $50 rifle and 40-60 corresponding cartridges will need to be purchased for the class as well.

8:00 AM - Arrival and check-in

8:30 AM – TWA Briefing

9:00 AM- Class begins in our Executive building
        -Equipment check
        -Discussion of rifle calibers/basic ballistics as it relates to hunting
        -Scope functions, options and differences
        -How to zero a rifle and troubleshooting
        -Fundamentals of marksmanship
        -Q&A discussion

11:30-12:15 - Break for lunch

12:30 - On the range
        -Zero rifles, learn scope adjustments (tracking exercise)
        -Safety in the blind and in the field
        -Applying fundamentals of marksmanship
        -How to achieve consistent grouping
        -Getting stable in different shooting positions (ie. deer blinds, from bipods or packs)
        -Discussion of shot placement on game animals
        -Shooting out to 300yd or beyond

5:00p - Q&A discussion
        -Class concludes
