From People Pleaser to Team Player - Boundary Setting
Fundraisers possess a servant’s heart, guide leadership, lend an ear to team members, and put a smile on a donor’s face. However, when professional and personal boundaries blur, being a team player can morph into people pleasing behavior, creating stress and anxiety. This mix diminishes a fundraiser’s ability to know when situations cross into the space of Illegal, Unethical, or Impossible (IUI). Raising money while avoiding the pitfalls of IUI are a result of professional development, self-check-ins, and firm boundaries.

Presented by Angela Barnes, CFRE, MBA
Angela Barnes, CFRE, MBA, Managing Director at Carter, is an exceptional advancement coach, with a strong record of counseling in annual giving, major gifts, and campaigns. She helps partners migrate from charitable giving to philanthropic investing. Her philosophy is that there are no quick fundraising fixes. Success is achieved through the daily execution of a strong plan and overcoming the fear of change. Angela has taught clients how to build successful relationships with individual donors, high-net-worth funders, foundations, and corporations.

In addition to consulting, in 2023, Angela has served in various interim roles including Director of Development and Vice Chancellor of External Affairs. Prior to joining Carter, Angela was the principal of ADB Strategies, a Cleveland-based nonprofit consulting company.
