About This Event
On the Rails is a summer camp for campers entering grades 4-6. On the Rails runs Wednesday, July 8th - Friday, July 10th from 9am-12pm each day.
What keeps trains between the lines and on the rails? In this 3-day camp, we’ll be exploring the physics behind model trains and public transportation. Build and test ramps, landscape a model train scene, and conduct both experiments and trains!
Campers will receive a snack during the camp that accomodates dietary restrictions. Please do not send campers with their own food.
Grades 4 – 6 Expectations: Campers will be expected to sustain 30-45 minutes of play or movement. They will practice listening to their peers’ ideas, planning as a team, and playing cooperative and competitive games. Science content is integrated into direct instruction, experimentation, and discovery activities. Campers will problem-solve challenges and work on projects for 45–60 minutes at a time.
Photo Release: I hereby authorize and consent to the use of the participant's visual image by Sitka Sound Science Center for appropriate purposes, including but not limited to: still photography, videotape, electronic and print publications and websites. I give this consent with no claim for payment.
Activity Description: The Sitka Sound Science Center (“SSSC”) offers summer camp programs for youth that may involve educational activities on and off SSSC property. Activities may include walking field trips, travel in SSSC vehicles, and participation in hands-on science experiences.
Acknowledgment of Risks: I understand and acknowledge that participation in the summer camp program may involve:
- Walking to nearby locations in the community.
- Traveling in SSSC-owned or operated vehicles.
- Participation in outdoor activities, which may involve varying weather conditions and terrain.
While SSSC staff and volunteers take every reasonable precaution to ensure safety, I acknowledge that there are inherent risks associated with these activities, including but not limited to slips, falls, vehicle-related incidents, or other unforeseen events.
Release of Liability: In consideration for the participant being allowed to take part in the summer camp program, I hereby release and hold harmless SSSC, its officers, employees, and volunteers from any and all liability, claims, demands, or causes of action that may arise from participation in these activities, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.
Transportation Consent: I consent to the participant being transported in SSSC-owned or operated vehicles to and from activity locations as part of the summer camp program.
