About This Event

Revolution is an engineering summer camp for campers entering grades 7-9. Week 1: Design-It runs Monday, July 27th - Friday, July 31st from 10am-2pm each day.

Revolution is all about designing, modeling, building, and testing. This camp is for anyone who loves hands-on projects - no building experience of any kind is necessary. Join us if you enjoy problem-solving, creative thinking, and taking on a new challenge. Campers are encouraged to register for both weeks. This year, we’ll work “between the lines” through exploring fiber arts, woodworking, and traditional weaving techniques while working towards building our own looms. Lunch is provided.

Grades 7 – 12 Expectations: Campers in grades 7–12 should be able to sustain focus for hour-long field trips, feel comfortable swimming for short stretches in the ocean, and feel excited about time outside and stretches of physical activity. They will be expected to plan cooperatively and delegate tasks, support their peers, and be independently motivated. These campers will learn science content through direct instruction, individual experimentation and observation, group discussion, and Q&A with experts. Skills in these camps require maturity and compliance with safety instructions. Work blocks will be 60–90 minutes, and in some cases may extend for several hours.

Photo Release: I hereby authorize and consent to the use of the participant's visual image by Sitka Sound Science Center for appropriate purposes, including but not limited to: still photography, videotape, electronic and print publications and websites. I give this consent with no claim for payment.

Participation Waiver:

Activity Description: The Sitka Sound Science Center (“SSSC”) offers summer camp programs for youth that may involve educational activities on and off SSSC property. Activities may include walking field trips, travel in SSSC vehicles, and participation in hands-on science experiences.

Acknowledgment of Risks: I understand and acknowledge that participation in the summer camp program may involve:

- Walking to nearby locations in the community.

- Traveling in SSSC-owned or operated vehicles.

- Participation in outdoor activities, which may involve varying weather conditions and terrain.

While SSSC staff and volunteers take every reasonable precaution to ensure safety, I acknowledge that there are inherent risks associated with these activities, including but not limited to slips, falls, vehicle-related incidents, or other unforeseen events.

Release of Liability: In consideration for the participant being allowed to take part in the summer camp program, I hereby release and hold harmless SSSC, its officers, employees, and volunteers from any and all liability, claims, demands, or causes of action that may arise from participation in these activities, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Transportation Consent: I consent to the participant being transported in SSSC-owned or operated vehicles to and from activity locations as part of the summer camp program.
