Falconry Hunt 2026

About This Event

Falconry 101: An Introduction to an Ancient Art

Falconry is one of the oldest partnerships between humans and wildlife—and it is still practiced today.

Join experienced falconers Mark and Shari Rettig for an in-depth introduction to the art of falconry. This immersive program explores the history, ethics, and day-to-day realities of working with birds of prey, from training and care to the extraordinary bond formed between falconer and raptor.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet several falconry birds up close, learn how these raptors are trained to hunt alongside humans, and hear firsthand stories from the field. Depending on conditions, the program may also include a live hunting demonstration, offering a rare glimpse of falconry in action.

The program will also highlight falconry’s role in modern conservation, wildlife stewardship, and education, and how this ancient practice continues to evolve today.

Whether you’re a longtime bird enthusiast or simply curious about how humans and raptors work together, Falconry 101 offers a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at one of humanity’s oldest wildlife traditions.
