Trauma Informed Care In the Real World: A Training for Supervisors of Direct Service Outreach and Housing Staff
Each day of Training will run from 9:00am-12:30pm. Note: Each session will be the same, so you only need to register for ONE date.
Supervisors have significant influence on how direct service staff engage and conduct the day to day work of ending homelessness. In addition to providing training and support, supervisors help ensure that professional standards are being met and work is being carried out within the foundational principles of trauma informed care, harm reduction, and person-centered approaches. Please join us for a 3.5 hour in person training designed to provide practical strategies for supervisors of direct service outreach and housing staff. In this highly interactive training, participants will learn how to:
- Support direct service staff in understanding trauma reactions in themselves and the people they are working without straying into the realm of therapy.
- Coach direct service staff and reframe/ redirect words, actions and behaviors that could replicate or add to trauma in the people they work with.
- Identify strategies to build staff skills and protect against trauma, vicarious trauma and burnout for themselves and the people they supervise.
- Recognize when coaching isn’t working and when it is time to move to corrective action or termination of employment.
