The Alabama Mississippi District #29 is committed to be one of the best performing Optimist Districts in the country.  The commitment to Optimist International is equlled by its commitment to the Optimist International Foundation, which funds the Childhood Health & Wellness Grant Program, the Junior Optimist Club program and the OI Scholarship programs for the Essay, Oratorical, CCDHH and Junior Golf.

Our District has a strong affinity to the Childhood Health and Wellness area. The AL MS District routinely ranks as one of the best Districts in the world. This commitment is rooted in our support of making a difference in the lives of young people, our community and in ourselves.

From 2000 to 2019 one of the major efforts for Optimist Clubs was the Childhood Cancer Campaign,   Starting in 2019, this effort has been expanded to include other important isssues and the effort rebranded as  "Childhood Health & Wellness Campaign". Clubs are able to continue their support of Childhood Cancer, but are encouraged to expand their support to include Childhood Health & Wellness.

In 2020, the District created a new way to support Childhood Health & Wellness.  The new vehicle is called online giving. Individuals are able to make online donations through this landing page and credit their local area Club for the gift.

Each quarterly meeting included raising funds for the Optimist International Foundation and the Childhood Wellness & Cancer Campaign.  The sale of raffle tickets for split the pot, the silent auction and various gift basket fundraisers were common.  Raising as much as $10,000 fpr the Childhood Health & Wellness area is the norm.  District leaderships knows that the need for funds is growing and it must find ways to do more.

Childhood Health & Wellness Chair Robin Tiggs has committed herself to the task of meeting the growing need for support.  For more information about the program or to create a local fundraising effort to support this mission critical endeavor, please reach out to District Childhood Health & Wellness Chair, Robin Tiggs at tiggsrrk@att.net or by phone at (205) 242-4904.
