August Horsehair & Saggar Firing Workshop

Only 4 tickets left!

About This Event

We will be using horsehair and feathers to decorate pots with unique smoke designs. In the process we will put your bisqueware in a kiln to heat up the pot. Once the pots get VERY hot, we will take the pot out of the kiln and will use horsehair and feathers to decorate the pot with unique designs.

Students can bring up to 3 bisqued pottery pieces. The pieces need to have been made with Cone 5 or 6 clay. Pieces should be no larger than 9”x9”. Pottery made out of white clay can be very dramatic but any color clay produces great results. Pots should have a smooth surface.

Pots that have been burnished or covered with terra sigillata can produce interesting results (contact the instructor for more information on how to prepare your pots in this manner, grant.gelhardt@gmail.com).

Firing Schedule
Monday, August 3, 6:00pm - 9:00pm - firing the pieces

Tuesday, August 4, 6:00pm - 6:30pm - picking up pieces

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by emailing education@lemoyne.org
