ARCHAMBEAU-DASTOOR DUO BIO
The Archambeau-Dastoor Duo is composed of Canadian violinist Daniel Dastoor and American cellist Camden Archambeau. The Duo formed at the Perlman Music Program in 2023 and instantly connected through a shared love for chamber music and the challenging and unusual repertoire of violin and cello duos.
Their innovative programs explore the diverse history of the duo form, from two-part inventions to opera fantasies and contemporary works. Always curious, the duo continues to explore and expand the repertoire of violin-cello duos, expanding into folk music and new music. In the 2024-2025 season, they commissioned a new work from Cambridge-based composer Ethan Chaves. They have appeared at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Metropolitan Opera Club, Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Neue Galerie, and St. Luke's, Forest Hills, and numerous private concerts in the Northeast.
Known for his musical sensitivity and inspired performances, violinist Daniel Dastoor has emerged as one of Canada’s leading young artists. A native of Montreal, Daniel is a winner of the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award, and won first and second prize at the Prix Ravel of the Écoles d’Art Américaines de Fontainebleau. As part of the Rilian Trio, he won first prize, audience prize, and the commissioned work prize at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition, and first prize at the Ilmari Hannikainen International Piano Chamber Competition. He has performed as soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic, Lethbridge Symphony, Richmond Symphony, and Jyväskylä Sinfonia, and was chosen as a 2023-2024 Performance Today Young Artist in Residence. Recent and upcoming appearances include the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, Ravinia Festival, Boston Chamber Music Society, in Shanghai at the Soundbox Fellowship Program as a faculty member, and in London at Wigmore Hall. With the Rilian Trio, Daniel is an Associate Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
A passionate chamber musician, Daniel has participated in the Ravinia Steans Institute, Perlman Music Program Chamber Workshop, Kneisel Hall Chamber Festival, Bowdoin Fellowship Program, National Arts Center’s Young Artist Program, Fontainebleau Festival, Trondheim International Trio Academy, Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, and Banff Centre festivals. Daniel was invited to perform as guest violinist with the UCalgary String Quartet faculty quartet in residence from 2016-2018. He has also participated twice in Calgary Pro Musica’s Young Artists Development Program, most recently as part of the Walden Trio, with which he competed in the Fischoff National Chamber Competition, and with which he was mentored by the Gryphon Trio at the Festival del Lago Academy in Ajijic, Mexico.
Active in the musical scene, Daniel participated in IMS Prussia Cove’s Open Chamber Music and Masterclass sessions, and competed in the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition. He has given solo and chamber performances across North America and Europe with appearances at series such as the Rockport Chamber Festival, Calgary Pro Musica, Copenhagen Summer Festival, and the Montreal Chamber Music Festival. Featured on WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase, he has also given performances for Music-Toronto and for the Banff Centre as part of the Dastoor-Woods Duo. Daniel has performed alongside many renowned artists including Inon Barnatan, Barbara Hannigan, Vivian Hornik-Weilerstein, Krzysztof Jablonski, Diana Ligeti, Robert McDonald, Merry Peckham, Barry Shiffman, and members of the Danish, Doric and Tetzlaff string quartets.
An equally experienced orchestral musician, Daniel has performed as concertmaster of the Royal Conservatory Orchestra and University of Calgary Orchestra, has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and McGill Symphony Orchestra, and has served as a substitute in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Red Deer Symphony Orchestra.
Daniel studied with Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory, completing a Graduate Diploma. Previously, he completed an Artist Diploma in Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory, studying with Ian Swensen, and an Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould School where he studied with Paul Kantor and Barry Shiffman as a Temerty Fellow. He also holds degrees in music from the Mount Royal Conservatory and the University of Calgary, and degrees in Computer Science from the University of Calgary and University of Toronto. Daniel performs on the 1700 Taft Stradivari violin, on loan by the Canada Council for the Arts Musical InstrumentBank. He also performs on a 1950 Louis Henri Gillet bow, generously on loan from CANIMEX.
Camden Archambeau is a cellist and conductor based in New York City. Recent appearances include concerts at Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Steinway Hall, the Neue Galerie, Millbrook Music Salon. He has presented recital series at the Metropolitan Opera Club and the Signet Society. In the 2023-24 season, he served as Artist-in-Residence at Harvard's Lowell House and received the St. Botolph Club Emerging Artist Award and the Robert Levin Prize for his work as a cellist and conductor.
He has completed residencies at Music@Menlo, Avaloch Farm, the Stauffer Center, the Perlman Music Program, and Bowdoin Festival Fellowship Program. He was a finalist in the 2025 Juilliard Cello Concerto Competition, performing Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante in Paul Hall. Camden has served as Principal Cellist of the Juilliard Orchestra, New York String Orchestra, and Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra and has been active with the Charleston Symphony and New York Classical Players.
Camden is an assistant conductor and chamber music coach at Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. He has appeared as a guest conductor with the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra and was the director of Harvard's Bach Society Orchestra. He holds a B.A. in History from Harvard and previously studied with Joel Krosnick, Paul Katz, Sieun Lin, and Adam Grabois. He studies with David Finckel and Nina Lee at the Juilliard School. He plays on a Becker cello on generous loan from the Colburn Foundation.
