Island of Dreams delivers an intimate portrait of Cuba in a time of crisis. What makes someone leave everything and everyone they know and love, and forego their familiar culture, to make their way into an unknown future in an unknown land? What makes someone stay where they live despite hardship and deprivation?
Island of Dreams shows a Cuba whose people have little hope for the future.
It tells the story of a father whose family is in danger of losing their home. Every night, bombs fall without warning, and he never knows when his home will be hit. To protect his children, he moves his own and his brother’s children into each other’s homes, so that if one house is destroyed, some of the children survive. The hardest part is that he must choose between his children.
This situation leaves the father torn, full of fear, love, and the heavy burden of impossible choices.

Sara and Adam, and their two-year-old daughter, arrived in Belgium illegally, and are now hoping to finally make their way on to England. Crammed together with other hopefuls in the back of a van, fear begins to prevail over hope. Redouane has been a policeman for 20 years. Every night, he and his team hunt down people smugglers throughout the country’s busy motorway network. That night, when he and his partner try to force a van suspected of transporting migrants to stop, everything changes.

A diminished combat veteran, working at the Veteran’s Crisis Line, believing there is nothing he can do to change the broken system, is voluntold to go on TV to defend it - he has 8 hours to decide.
