Pet Wellness Clinics For Financially Struggling Individuals
Pet Wellness Clinics are a great opportunity for members of our community to take advantage of free and/or low-cost wellness and preventative services to help your pet continue to live a healthy lifestyle.
Pet Wellness clinics are offered quarterly at different partnering locations throughout the Capital Region.
All services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Animal Protective Foundation is a shelter and not a full-service veterinary clinic.
Our Wellness Clinics are intended for preventative care. We are not able to treat chronic medical concerns. For medical concerns not related to the wellness/preventative care visit, our veterinarians recommend you and your pet schedule an appointment or establish a relationship with a full-service veterinarian.
Our Veterinarians and staff make vaccine and preventative care recommendations after a brief exam. Recommendations and dates for follow-up vaccines and other preventative care are explained on the exam sheet, including existing conditions that should be followed up with your primary care, full-service veterinarian.

Vaccine Services
Prevention is the key to keeping your pet healthy and safe.
Pet Wellness Clinics offer:
- Rabies vaccines - 1-year and 3-year, as needed; rabies is a disease that is fatal to humans and animals, and the law requires that every cat and dog be properly vaccinated.
- DA2PP (dogs) or FVRCP (cats) vaccines -.these vaccines prevent a wide variety of common diseases that can be fatal to pets, including distemper and parvo.
Microchips are available as an add-on service when receiving a vaccine - these are small devices, no larger than a grain of rice, that are implanted between a pet’s shoulder blades; when properly registered, they can help increase the odds that if your pet becomes lost you will be successfully reunited home.
THINGS TO REMEMBER
- RABIES VACCINE: Puppies and kittens must be at least 3 months old.
- DISTEMPER VACCINE: Puppies and kittens must be at least 8 weeks old
- A record of prior rabies & distemper vaccination is required for a three-year immunization certificate. If no record is presented, a 3 week or one-year vaccination certification will be issued (based on pets age).
- All dogs must be on a leash. *No retractable leashes are permitted.
- All cats must be secured in a crate. *Leashes are not permitted for cats.
- All pets must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is able to hold the animal during vaccination. Someone 18 or older must be present to sign the consent form.
- ONE PERSON PER SPECIES: If you have dogs AND cats, we require one person to handle only dogs and one person to handle only cats as each species will be seen at different stations.
- If bringing more than 2 pets to a clinic, please bring additional help to manage your pets throughout the clinic.
- Cleaning up after your pet is required.
- Please maintain control over your animal and keep away from other animals as much as possible.
- At our wellness clinics, our veterinarians briefly examine your pet to determine if they’re healthy enough to receive vaccinations and other services. If our veterinarians feel your pet may be too sick for vaccines, they will refer you to your regular veterinarian or nearest emergency clinic.
UPON ARRIVAL
- Please keep your pet in your vehicle and proceed to the registration table. Once you have registered your pet, you will return to your vehicle to wait for your turn.
- Please have your mobile device notifications and ringer on during the clinic. The clinic staff will communicate with you via text messaging when it is your pets turn. (mobile device not required)
- All services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. When the doses are gone, the clinic will close. We will do our best to minimize waiting and alert you when we have no doses available.
- Clinic will be held rain or shine.
The APF Wellness Clinics are intended for pets owned by low-income, homeless or financially struggling individuals.
