Beyond the Studio: Working with Art Consultants

About This Event

What does an art consultant look for when discovering new artists and how can artists build relationships with consultants that lead to opportunities?

This Beyond the Studio workshop takes artists inside the world of art consulting, from how consultants find and evaluate work to what they need from artists when presenting work to clients. Learn how to approach consultants professionally, prepare the materials they need, navigate pricing and commissions, and build relationships that can grow over time.

Artists will leave with a better understanding of where art consultants fit within the art market and practical tools for making their work easier to discover, present, and place.

About the speaker:

Susan Jedrzejewski (b. 1983, American) captures makeshift and coincidental encounters within the natural world. Using an intentionally imperfect process, patterns and forms emerge from the snapshot of a dynamic and ephemeral event. The resulting work, layered with competing dualities, recounts a physical act with nature, but also one’s distance from it.

Her work has been exhibited regionally at McColl Center, Hodges Taylor, Goodyear Arts, ArtFields, Central Piedmont Community College, UNC Charlotte, East Carolina University, Gaston College, Cain Center for the Arts, Artspace, and Greensboro Project Space, and nationally at Florida State University Museum of Fine Art (Tallahassee, FL), Lodger Gallery (Kansas City, MO), Treat Gallery (New York, NY), and Rochester Contemporary Art Center (Rochester, NY), among others.

Jedrzejewski was awarded a residency at Willow House (2026), a Creative Growth Grant from the City of Charlotte (2025), a Creative Mecklenburg Grant from the Arts & Science Council (2024), and was selected for the 2025 ArtPop cohort. Her work was also commissioned as part of Charlotte SHOUT! (2025).

In addition to her studio practice, Jedrzejewski brings more than 17 years of experience in arts administration and consulting, supporting the creative development of artists and organizations. She currently leads Comment Thread, a monthly critique program for artists at McColl Center.

Susan received her BA in Studio Art from UNC Charlotte in 2006 and an MBA from Queens University of Charlotte in 2017. She lives and works in Charlotte, NC.
