Upcycled Origami Workshop

An Origami Fundraising Workshop Benefiting ATASK

Join us for a creative and community-centered evening of art, sustainability, and connection in support of the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK).

During this guided 90-minute fundraising workshop, participants will learn how to transform recycled magazine paper into a beautiful handmade decorative vase using 3D origami techniques. No prior origami experience is required.

This event is an opportunity to come together through creativity and community while supporting ATASK's work with survivors of domestic violence and their children.  All registration proceeds benefit ATASK's free and confidential services for Asian individuals and families.

Participants will leave with:

  • Their own handmade decorative vase

  • Greater awareness of ATASK’s mission.

  • A sense of community connection and impact

By attending this event, you consent to being photographed, filmed, and recorded. These recordings may be used for ATASK's promotional purposes, including on websites, social media, and advertising. If you have any concerns regarding this, please reach out to ATASK staff at the event.

About the Artist

Champa Shakya is a skilled metal and craft artist and dedicated educator from Nepal. She began learning the traditional art of metal crafting at the age of eight under the guidance of her grandfathers and uncles, developing a deep appreciation for the craft from an early age. She worked as a metal craft artisan until 1981 before pursuing a career in education. From 1998 to 2020, she served as a Craft Teacher at a Middle School in Nepal, where she inspired and nurtured creativity among generations of students. Following her retirement from teaching, she returned to her passion for metal crafting in 2022 and continues to create traditional artworks. In addition to metal crafts, her interests include creating and teaching origami, making traditional bed sheets and shawls, and engaging in various forms of handicrafts, reflecting her lifelong commitment to preserving and promoting traditional artistic skills.
