Date & Time
About This Event
Led by artist and educator Davion Alston, this group critique series focuses on close looking, intentionality and engagement informed by participants' questions around situating their practice inside of larger social, canonical and narrative contexts. Split across four (4) dates, each critique will host five (5) presenters at a time. Upon registration, participants will be prompted to submit a small portfolio of their current work and artist statements, along with 3 - 5 questions they will present to the group as a starting point for the conversation and preferences for their critique date.
Prior to participants' scheduled participation date, you will be asked to create a digital presentation loosely guided by the Pecha Kucha model (term derived from the Japanese term for 'chit-chat'; a concise, fast-paced presentation format consisting of 20 slides that advance automatically after 20 seconds each). For this non-formal, more intimate iteration, the presentation should include images, sources and references that give an overview of your practice, larger contexts to situate your practice in and the actual work you would like critique and feedback on.
Participants may choose to present digitally (using the provided screen at ACP) or physically (physical portfolios, prints etc). Sessions will take place from 6 - 8 PM on the below scheduled dates:
October 28th
November 18th
December 2nd
Please note: inclusion in this workshop is not juried or selection-based–submission information is only requested to help the facilitator intentionally organize participants on scheduled crit days, as well have a chance for any pre-planning materials or support that could be useful.
