About This Event

Fams of Steel was born from the powerful idea that families raising autistic and neurodivergent children deserve community, connection, and care, not isolation.

Rooted in the mission of Autism Pittsburgh, Fams of Steel is a growing support circle for parents, caregivers, and advocates who share the journey of raising individuals with autism and related needs.

Fams of Steel is not just a support group; it’s part of Autism Pittsburgh’s commitment to coalition building across Western Pennsylvania. We believe that real change happens when families, educators, community leaders, and autistic individuals come together to shape more inclusive systems.

Through Fams of Steel, we:

  • Partner with libraries, schools, and disability organizations

  • Connect families to Medicaid-funded services without promoting one therapeutic model over another

  • Advocate for trauma-informed, person-centered supports

  • Lift up the voices of those most often left out

Our  Values

  • Neurodiversity-Affirming: We honor all ways of thinking, feeling, and communicating.

  • Family-Led: Your lived experience drives our priorities.

  • Coalition-Oriented: We build with, not for our community.

  • Supportive, Not Prescriptive: We don’t promote one “right way” we support your way forward.
