Preparing for Adulthood on the Spectrum

Registration ends Monday, 04/14/2025 9:00am EDT

About This Event

Join us on April 15, 2025, at 7:00 PM for an insightful workshop titled "Preparing for Adulthood on the Autism Spectrum." This event is tailored to assist individuals with autism and their families in navigating the transition to adulthood by addressing critical topics such as financial planning, legal considerations, and post-secondary opportunities.

Our discussion will delve into financial options, including ABLE accounts—tax-advantaged savings accounts that allow individuals with disabilities to save for qualified expenses without jeopardizing eligibility for means-tested benefits—and Special Needs Trusts, which provide a way to manage resources for a person with a disability without affecting their eligibility for public benefits.

We will also explore legal issues pertinent to adulthood, such as guardianship, supported decision-making agreements, and powers of attorney. Understanding these frameworks is essential for empowering individuals with autism to make informed decisions while ensuring necessary supports are in place.

Additionally, the workshop will cover avenues for continued education and employment post-graduation, offering insights into programs and resources that facilitate successful transitions into higher education settings and the workforce.

This session is ideal for self-advocates, families, caregivers, and professionals seeking comprehensive information to support individuals on the autism spectrum as they approach adulthood. Register today!

Note: The information provided in this workshop will be based on current regulations and opportunities as of April 2025. This event is part of the Autism Society of Indiana's "30 Days of Autism," a month-long series dedicated to fostering community and connection throughout Indiana.
