About This Event

Summer Safety: Wandering & Water Safety Strategies is designed to provide valuable tools and strategies to safeguard individuals with Autism. This webinar will teach attendees about the importance of creating and implementing layers of protection and safety strategies to utilize around bodies of water. Upon completion of the webinar, attendees will be able to immediately implement at least two of the safety strategies within their homes and communities. Access to lifesaving safety resources will be provided to all viewers of the webinar.

Katie Wentley oversees safety programming for the Autism Society of America, where she leads national initiatives focused on improving safety outcomes across the Autism community. She brings a multi-tiered, prevention-focused approach to safety, with particular expertise in program development, community education, and systems-level strategy. Katie holds a master's degree in special education with a focus on Autism and has built her career teaching, developing programs, advocating for, and learning alongside individuals on the Autism Spectrum and their families. Her work centers on creating accessible, practical solutions that support safety, independence, and inclusion across the lifespan. Katie is the developer of Safety on the Spectrum: Accessible Aquatics™, a comprehensive training initiative designed to address the elevated risk of drowning and water-related incidents within the Autism community. This program equips aquatics professionals, community leaders, and organizations with evidence-informed strategies to improve safety in and around water. Through her leadership, Katie continues to advance education, strengthen community partnerships, and expand preventative safety programming to support the Autism community nationwide.
