How to optimize the experience of autistic individuals in the healthcare environment using

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) concepts and techniques.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will gain a greater understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Attendees will learn to describe Behavior Analysis basics and its uses in healthcare settings.
  • Attendees will learn effective communication strategies.
  • Attendees will learn about sensory challenges and creating a sensory friendly environment.
  • Attendees will learn to use ABA to teach skills to children and adults with ASD to communicate levels of pain and discomfort, preferences for medical procedures, and approaches to build tolerance for medical procedures in general.
  • Attendees will practice problem solving using ABA to manage aggression, self-injury and non-compliance with medical procedures during physical exams and increased comfort during vaccine administration.

The Florida Tech School of Behavior Analysis (SoBA) and The Scott Center for Autism Treatment

The school of Behavior Analysis (ABA) at the Florida Institute of Technology is nationally and internationally recognized for its academic training model and faculty research excellence.  SoBA offers bachelor degrees,    Master of Science degrees, and doctorate degrees in Behavior Analysis. The Florida Institute of Technology Scott Center for Autism Treatment and Research is a clinical center of excellence located within the SoBA. The Scott Center provides gold standard diagnosis and treatment services for children with autism spectrum disorder.

Rockin’ on the Chain

Rockin’ on the Chain is dedicated to bringing opportunities for all families affected by autism and special needs.   All proceeds raised from the Rockin’ on the Chain event benefit the Winter Haven Hospital Foundation Fund for Mental Health.
