About This Event

Britain's Loyal Colonies Lost: The American Revolution in Florida

While 13 colonies declared independence in 1776, Britain's Florida colonies took a different path. In this compelling lecture, Dr. David Head tells the often-overlooked story of East and West Florida during the American Revolution. He begins by examining who lived in the Floridas and why many residents remained loyal to the British Crown. Head then explores the conflict that followed, from unsuccessful American incursions into East Florida to Spain's far more effective campaigns in the west. He details Spain's entry into the war and the leadership of Bernardo de Galvez, whose victories culminated in the capture of Pensacola. Timed with the approaching 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026, this presentation sheds new light on Florida's pivotal - and complex - role in the Revolutionary era.

Each ticket includes a free meal (vegetarian and gluten-free options available).
Meal service begins at 6:00 p.m.
Speaker presentation begins at 7:00 p.m.
