Next Steps Summer Camp 2026!

9AM - 3PM

Welcome to Next Steps Summer Camp!

Next Steps Summer Camp is a transition focused program for students with visual impairments ages 12-22 designed to build confidence, independence, and real world skills through hands-on community experiences. Throughout the week, campers will practice using public transportation, managing money, navigating new environments, using assistive technology, and developing independent living skills in fun and supportive settings.

Students will participate in community outings including bus and train travel, college and career exploration experiences, fitness and recreation activities, and real world practice with communication, self-advocacy, and problem-solving skills. Next Steps is designed to help students build the tools they need for greater independence at school, at home, and in their community.

Is This Program the Right Fit for Your Child?
Next Steps Summer Camp is designed for students with visual impairments ages 12-22 who are working toward increased independence in community settings. Camp activities include public transportation, community outings, fitness/recreation activities, cooking activities, and small group instruction.

Campers must be able to:

Participate in community outings without 1:1 aide support
Manage personal care and feeding needs independently during camp hours
Follow group directions and safety expectations within community settings
Participate safely in bus and train transportation activities
Transition between multiple community locations with the staffing supports provided

9AM-3PM | Ages 12-22

Throughout the week, campers will:

  • practice laundry and kitchen skills
  • learn different organization strategies
  • learn to navigate public transportation
  • visit local destinations such as the post office, farmers market, and local restaurants
  • prepare and pack their own snacks
  • handle money and follow their weekly budget
  • participate in one larger field trip
  • build self-confidence, teamwork, social interaction and self-advocacy skills
  • celebrate their growth with a recognition ceremony and recreation stations!
  • and more!

Additional Info:

  1. A follow up registration packet will be sent after payment to complete enrollment
  2. Campers must bring their own lunch, reusable water bottle, and any needed assistive devices
  3. Drop off and pick up transportation is the responsibility of the family
  4. Program is led by Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments and supported by trained staff and volunteers

Please note: Wheelchair-accessible seating is limited for both OCTA t. We will do our best to accommodate all students, however, families of students who use wheelchairs may be asked to assist with transportation on certain days. We will communicate with you in advance to coordinate as needed.
