About This Event

Listen to Me! Documentary Premiere

Witness the life-changing moment when a child with profound hearing loss hears sound for the very first time.
Eyes widen.  The world falls still.  Then comes the smile that says, everything is different now. This is the transformation cochlear implants bring to young children.

The Listen to Me! Documentary takes you inside these life-changing moments—when silence gives way to sound and children's futures are forever transformed.

This is more than a film—it’s a journey into what’s possible when the gift of hearing reaches children and their families. You’ll witness the power of early hearing healthcare, the dedication of those working to make it accessible, and the global collaboration driving this change forward.

📅 Saturday, September 6, 2025
📍 Dinkelspiel Auditorium, Stanford University
🕓 4:30 PM (Doors open at 4:00 PM)

Attire: Cocktail/Festive

All proceeds from this premiere will directly support the Baker Institute for Children—advancing our mission to provide access to cochlear implants, therapy, and essential hearing care for children in underserved communities.

Our New Initiative-Hear Kenya!

In Kenya—and across much of sub-Saharan Africa—children born with hearing loss are too often left behind. Without early screening, trained professionals, or access to hearing technology, they face profound barriers to education, employment, and full participation in society.

But together, we can change that.

Hear Kenya! is an ambitious, Kenyan-led initiative powered by The Baker Institute for Children with Hearing Loss and our partners. We’re working to build a sustainable system of hearing healthcare—from early diagnosis to family-centered therapy—for children across Kenya.

In 2024 and 2025, thanks to generous supporters like you, we:

  • Provided life-changing cochlear implant care (surgery, devices, and one year of therapy) to 10 children—accounting for over 5% of all cochlear implants ever performed in Kenya.

  • Hosted Kenya’s first-ever Listen to Me! Conference, training caregivers, clinicians, and educators in Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) strategies.

  • Received recognition and support from U.S. Ambassador Meg Whitman, reinforcing the global importance of this work.

  • Launched a teletherapy program to reach underserved communities with high-quality LSL therapy.

What’s Next?

We’re not stopping here. Your support will help us:

  • Equip hospitals that are currently standing empty with diagnostic and surgical tools through $5–7 million in donated medical supplies.

  • Install newborn hearing screening equipment to catch hearing loss early.

  • Train 100+ local caregivers, teachers, and health workers through in-person and virtual education.

  • Provide cochlear implants and therapy to another 10–15 children by 2026.

Why We Need You

We are seeking to raise $500,000 to continue and expand this critical work. The Baker Institute and A&K Philanthropy have already pledged $120,000—and now we’re asking for your help to keep the momentum going.

Be Part of the Story

Join us for a special evening celebrating this global movement for equity in hearing healthcare. Our documentary premiere will take you inside the lives of the children and families whose futures are being transformed—one sound at a time.

This is more than a film screening. It’s a chance to be part of a powerful story of hope and change.

Attend. Donate. Spread the word. Together, let’s help every child be heard.
