Presque Isle State Park

Our popular Erie County Woodcock Watches are back!

American Woodcock are odd members of the shorebird family, shunning the beaches for woodlands. They’re especially known for their quirky appearance and unique evening aerial displays during their breeding season.

Presque Isle hosts good numbers of American Woodcock every year. We’ll take advantage of their fidelity to display sites to hear and hopefully even see the “sky dances” they perform during the peak of their display season. Participants will get a brief overview on the natural history of American Woodcock and will be prepped on what to expect before we settle in to enjoy the show.

Additional Info

  • Registration Required. Each member of your party must register separately.

  • Meeting Point: The meeting location and further instructions will be emailed to participants closer to the event as we want to be certain we have reliable performers staked out for this.

For April Bird Walks:

  • Registration Required. Each member of your party must register separately.

  • Our birding is done at a slow pace, and usually over a short distance.

  • All walks run rain or shine unless weather conditions are too dangerous to safely be out.

  • Dress for the weather. Presque Isle is frequently cooler than up on the mainland but can warm up quickly during our walks, so layers are a good choice.

  • Wear comfortable footwear that you don’t mind possibly getting a little muddy.

  • Please make sure we have a way to contact you in case we need to make any changes; typically, emails are sent out the night before if any changes are required.

  • Look for the Erie Bird Observatory sign. Please arrive on time to your walk so we can get in as much birding as possible.

These walks are open to everyone, regardless of EBO membership status, but limited to 12 participantsWe kindly ask that if you enjoy your walk with Katie that you consider a donation and/or becoming a member so we may continue to offer events like this in the future.
