Willy Wonka the Musical

Willy Wonka Jr. is a high-energy, family friendly adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, designed especially for young performers.  The performance is filled with colorful characters specially designed by our Brevard Academy's makeup elective, imaginative settings created by the Brevard Academy's advanced art students and stage lighting crew, and memorable songs. The show celebrates kindness, imagination, and doing the right thing.  

The story follows Charlie Bucket, a kind-hearted child who lives in poverty with his loving family.  When the mysterious candy maker, Willy Wonka, announces that five lucky winners will find Golden Tickets hidden inside Wonka Bars- and win a tour of his magical chocolate factory- the entire town is swept up in excitement.  

Against all odds, Charlie finds the final golden ticket and joins four other children on the tour: 

*Augustus Gloop, who can't stop eating

*Veruca Salt, who always gets what she wants

*Violet Beauregarde, who's obsessed with winning

*Mike Teavee, who only cares about technology 

Inside the fantastical factory, Wonka and his mischievous Oompa Loompas guide the children through incredible rooms filled with edible delights, fizzy lifting drinks, chocolate rivers, and inventing machines.  Each child (except Charlie) gives in to their worst habits and faces humorous but meaningful consequences. 

In the end, Charlie's honesty, humility, and compassion impress Willy Wonka.  He is revealed as the true winner- not because of luck, but because of his character.  Wonka names Charlie as his successor, giving him not only the factory but a brighter future for his entire family.
