SAIL: School Psychologists Advancing Impact and Learning is a Boston Public Schools initiative dedicated to strengthening the school psychology workforce and expanding access to prevention and intervention services so every student has the support they need to thrive. Through the Behavioral Health Services department, more than 100 school psychologists work across Boston schools to deliver a continuum of behavioral health supports within a multi-tiered system of care. These services include universal prevention efforts, early intervention, and intensive individualized supports that promote student mental health, well-being, and academic success.

Each year, school psychologists partner with educators, families, and community agencies to provide counseling, consultation, crisis response, and psychological assessments that help schools respond to students’ evolving needs. The SAIL campaign builds on this foundation by investing in recruitment, training, and retention of school psychologists while strengthening systems that support preventative and targeted interventions across schools. Through partnerships with universities, hospitals, and community organizations, Boston Public Schools trains graduate-level interns and mentors early-career professionals to ensure a diverse, highly skilled behavioral health workforce for the future.

By expanding the capacity of school psychologists and strengthening prevention and intervention systems, BHS  aims to close gaps in access to mental health support, promote student well-being, and help create school environments where every student can learn, belong, and thrive. Your strategic investment in SAIL enables us to deepen our impact and scale evidence-based, culturally responsive mental health services at both the student and systems levels.
