The West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC) will host its second Back-to-School Event for Students with Disabilities and Their Families on July 30, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Maranatha Fellowship Church, James R. Wright, Jr. Family Life Center, located at 2929 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV 25177.
We are honored to welcome Michele Blatt, West Virginia State Superintendent of Schools, as our special guest speaker.
Registration is open to West Virginia students with disabilities in Pre-K through 12th grade. This free event will provide educational resources, valuable information, fun interactive activities, backpacks, and much more to help students and their families prepare for a successful school year.
For older students and parents, the event will feature presentations on:
WV DRS: Career Planning for Students with Disabilities
WVABLE: WVABLE allows individuals with disabilities and their families to save in an ABLE account tax-free without the funds impacting their eligibility for public benefits, including SSI and Medicaid.
WV CARES: Understanding the Difference Between an IEP and a 504 Plan
The event will conclude with prize giveaways for participants.
