About This Event
A New Way of Thinking about BPD and Personality Disorders: A Shift from Categories to Dimensions
An Emotions Matter Live Seminar
Featuring Frank Yeomans, M.D. Ph.D., Alexandra Stein, Ph.D.
Wednesday, November 4, 2026 via Zoom
7:30 PM ET / 6:30 PM CT / 5:30 PM MT / 4:30 PM PT
About the Seminar:
How we understand and diagnose personality disorders has changed over time, with growing questions about whether the existing approach fully captures the complexity of these conditions and the people experiencing them. This webinar will introduce the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD), a different way of understanding personality disorders, including borderline personality disorder (BPD), that goes beyond checklists of symptoms to consider how a person experiences themselves, relates to others, and navigates life, as well as the individual traits that shape their unique experiences. We’ll explore what BPD looks like through this diagnostic approach and how it can capture the different ways BPD can show up from person to person. We’ll also discuss what this approach may offer people with BPD, their loved ones, and mental health professionals, while considering some of the concerns that have been raised about its use.
