Book-Making with Cereal Box Studio

Registration ends Saturday, 06/06/2026 11:00am EDT

About This Event

Held in conjunction with Cereal Box Studio, and inspired by Gee Horton's exhibition, Chapter 4, In Another Lifetime, this 2-day workshop invites participants to explore dreams, symbols, and personal narrative through hands-on bookmaking.

Participants can register for the series, or attend a single workshop.

Day 1: MAY 23, 2026 - Contemporary Arts Center

Beginning at the CAC with a guided tour of the exhibition, considering how Horton’s large-scale drawings and immersive environments translate a deeply personal, dream-informed storyline into visual form. Through a series of prompts, participants will then create their own written and visual responses, reflecting on symbols, imagery, and narratives that emerge from their own lived experiences and subconscious landscapes.

Day 2: June 6, 2026 - Cereal Box Studio

On the second day hosted at Cereal Box Studio, these contributions will be transformed through risograph printing and assembled into unique, hand-bound books. Participants will be guided to select, sequence, and assemble printed materials into their own hand-bound books or journals, learning accessible binding techniques in the process. The workshop emphasizes both individual expression and collective authorship, resulting in unique books that blend many voices into a single evolving narrative.

Cereal Box Studio will then produce a special edition including all contributions to be held in their archive, and at partnering organizations, as a community artifact.
