About This Event

Greetings!

Join us for this life-changing experience of Gospel service in Christian community.

Rising 9th graders through adults are welcome to join us. All applicants must give of themselves in every aspect of the experience, including preparation, fundraising, prayer, service, theological reflection, and community life.

Please read this letter carefully and consider everything as you discern whether or not you will apply.

The 2025 Capuchin Appalachian Mission (CAM) is Saturday, July 12 – Sunday, July 20, 2025. Completed Application, with immunization record, Companions In Mission (CIM) Form, and full registration fee or a deposit of $125.00, must be received by  Friday, May 2, 2025. This mission trip to serve entails austere sleeping arrangements, simple meals, early wake-up times, and long workdays, accomplishing physical and potentially emotional work in our encounter and solidarity with the marginalized. Our mission also broadens perspectives, deepens empathy, and draws one closer to Christ within our loving and supportive community. Many individuals return from our mission trips with a heightened sense of gratitude, renewed faith, and a stronger desire to make a positive impact in their communities.

Applicants will be prayerfully selected to establish a well-balanced Christian community. If you are not accepted on the Mission, your deposit will be returned in full. We will select a mix of first-timers and those who have previously participated in CAM, taking into account the applicants participation, including orientation, workdays, fundraising, and all other aspects of the Mission.

ALL REQUIRED FIELDS ON THE APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED. If the question does not apply to you, enter n/a in the field. The application will not go through without completing the required fields. You will receive a confirmation email.

Orientation:  ALL participants MUST attend the orientation on Saturday, May 10, 2025, 9:30 am-3:00 pm at Capuchin Family Ministries, 781 Route 9D, Garrison, NY 10524

Pre-trip Work Sessions: All participants must participate in at least one of the two preparation workdays: Tuesday, May 20, 5:00 -9:00 pm, or Thursday, June 5, 5:30 pm -9:00 pm at Capuchin Family Ministries, 781 Route 9D, Garrison, NY 10524. We will be collecting, sorting, and boxing clothing and childrens books for our outreach ministry. Please start collecting clean, unstained clothing and childrens books after you are accepted and bring them to the work session! We will also be organizing tools for manual labor and preparing materials for our VBS program.  In addition to these physical preparations, we will be sharing a meal together and continuing the important work of building our community.

Finances: The $300.00 fee per participant helps to cover some, but not all, expenses. The cost of the last program was $547.00 per person. We estimate the cost of this year's program to be close to the same. The difference is recouped through the fundraising efforts of each participant through Companions In Mission. Each participant sends out at least 12 requests for sponsorship to relatives, neighbors, friends, Godparents, Knights of Columbus, or other service organizations. Parishes often financially support those on mission trips! You are giving a week of your time, so why not ask the community to join you with their prayerful and financial support? Talk with your pastor directly, ask if he will allow you to speak at parish masses on a weekend, and take up a collection. Fundraising is a vital part of this mission experience for everyone. While many factors go into a participant's ability to raise funds, we require the good-faith effort of everyone on this Mission. Return the completed CIM Form containing the names of twelve or more people you will ask to sponsor you once accepted. Do not send out your sponsor requests until you have received your acceptance letter. We will provide you with a sample fundraising letter and other resources in the acceptance package.

*If a parish is assisting with covering the program's costs, the deposit for each participant is still expected at the time of Application.  **If there is financial difficulty, please contact us directly. No one has ever been turned away solely on the grounds of finances.

Prayerfully consider applying for this powerful experience of Gospel community and service. It requires total commitment from every participant and promises tremendous rewards as you participate in all aspects of the Mission. If accepted, you can expect to work hard and leave your comfort zone. Likewise, expect that you will learn about the richness of our faith and be drawn more deeply into the mystery of God's love. It is a gift to be a part of a Capuchin Appalachian Mission community.

Medical Insurance card and Companions In Mission (CIM) Form can be scanned or photographed  (clear & readable!) and emailed to myannitelli@capuchin.org. Adults must also have Safe Environment Training and submit a copy of their Driver's License if driving during the program.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email myannitelli@capuchin.org.

May God's Blessings and Peace be with you,

Erik Lenhart, OFM Cap., Chaplain
