Join us January 10, 2025, for the 4th Dr. Daniel Kaufer Memorial Caregiver Symposium: Sleep & Dementia.

The symposium is named in honor of Dr. Kaufer who was a source of knowledge, answers and hope for the families he cared for at the UNC Memory Disorders Clinic in Chapel Hill, NC and for families and professionals across the county. Dr. Kaufer was a leader in Neurocognitive Disorders and especially Lewy Body and Frontotemporal Dementias until his death in 2020. He also served on the Board of Directors of Dementia Alliance for many years.

During this year's event, we will hear from experts Heidi Roth, PhD and Graham H. Diering, PhD to gain their insights on sleep and dementia. This symposium will provide the latest research and practical tips to enhance sleep when there is a diagnosis of brain change or dementia.

AGENDA:

1:00   - 3:30 pm EST

Speakers:

Heidi Roth, PhD, UNC Neurology, has special research interests in memory and sleep, diagnosis and treatment of language disorders and aphasia. Dr. Roth is currently a professor at the School of Medicine Neurology department teaching about sleep medicine along with memory and cognitive disorders.

Dr. Graham H. Diering, PhD, UNC Neuroscience Center, has a special interest in sleep. He explores how sleep influences changes in the connections between neurons. Dr. Diering earned his Bachelor's and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia and then continued his Postdoctoral degree at John Hopkins University in Neuroscience.
