Bigleaf Magnolia Hike at Redlair Preserve

Donate

About This Event

This isn’t just another magnolia. Towering hundreds of feet above with gigantic leaves and blooms as large as a dinner plate, the bigleaf magnolia is a sight to behold. This rare tree is only found in a few places in the Piedmont, including Redlair Preserve. Don’t miss this special opportunity to hike a true ecological jewel with landowner Haywood Rankin and Andy Kane, former CLC stewardship manager.

There will be a choice of a longer 2 hour hike and a shorter 1 hour hike.

Please Note: This is a moderate hike on natural surface dirt trails with rocky and uneven terrain. Participants must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes to help protect against poison ivy and other vegetation. Dogs are not permitted.

What's Provided:

  • Hike guide
  • First aid supplies
  • Beverages and snacks

What you should bring/wear:

  • Full water bottle
  • Comfortable athletic shoes, sneakers or hiking boots
  • Long pants
  • Camera
  • Sunscreen, hat or other sun protection

We can't wait to see you! Please email kayte@catawbalands.org with any questions.
