2026 Rookery Island Cleanup (Upper Laguna Madre)

About This Event

Help us protect coastal birds and their habitats by volunteering at the Rookery Island Cleanup in the Upper Laguna Madre! This event is hosted by the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program - Coastal Bird Program.

Date: Saturday, October 10, 2026

Time: 8:00AM-11:00AM

Meeting Location: The Waterline @ Doc's (lower level)

This annual cleanup helps protect vital bird nesting islands and nearby shorebird habitat by removing trash and debris before it can harm wildlife.

There are three ways you can participate:

  • Boat Captain Volunteers – Bring your own boat and help us reach the rookery islands. You may also choose to take other volunteers with you.

  • On-Board Volunteers – Don’t have a boat? No problem! Sign up to ride along with one of our partner boat captains and lend a hand on the islands.

  • Shoreline Volunteers – Prefer to stay on land? There’s plenty of shoreline and nearby habitat that need attention.

What we will provide:

  • Lifejackets (if needed)
  • Up2U Trash Bags
  • Gloves
  • Swag Bag
  • Trash Grabbers (First come, first serve)
  • Lunch after the cleanup!

What to Bring:

  • Shoes (closed-toe) that you are willing to get wet/dirty
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Reusable water bottle

*Please bring a REUSABLE bottle - Doc's only allows personal water bottles to be brought in and filled up.
