Our mission is to "Restore Christ to Counseling and Counseling to the Church in New England." What does it mean to "restore counseling to the church"?
Join Andy Engert and the CCEF New England counselors as we go back to the basics of our mission. This one-day conference is for all Christians who want to care for others well. We hope to give church members the basic biblical counseling skills necessary to respond with truth and love to the real struggles of people around them. This is also a great opportunity to foster a culture of care within your church. We encourage pastors to bring their elder team, staff team, small group leaders, and any church member who displays gifts of mercy and compassion.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS
This year, we will have four breakout sessions.
- Walking Through the Valley: Using Psalm 23 to Listen and Journey with Others
As followers of Christ, we are called to walk with others through their valleys, offering presence and care. Psalm 23 provides a powerful framework for understanding and guiding someone’s story—not by rushing to solutions, but by listening well and walking alongside them on the same path the Father shepherded Jesus through. In this breakout session, we will explore how the themes of honest lament, presence, and restoration in Psalm 23 can shape our counseling approach, helping us attune to both the spoken and unspoken aspects of a person’s journey. -
Cultivating Caring Relationships
This breakout session will offer practical guidance in caring well, specifically through developing relationships in the church and expressing your care and compassion more deeply for the people around you. We will use the lens of Scripture to consider the barriers that keep us from reaching out and then focus on how the Lord helps us move beyond these. Join us as we explore concrete ways to approach people, ask good questions, and respond well to cultivate caring relationships in various church settings. - A Refuge for the Oppressed: Seeing and Reflecting God's Heart for the Abused
As we care for people in our churches, domestic abuse is a reality we must be prepared to encounter. Too often, the darkness of oppression stays hidden at home, as families in our fellowship feel confused and crushed under its weight. But the Lord sees. He cares. And he doesn’t stay silent on this. Scripture invites us to know God as a refuge for those who are oppressed. Together, we’ll consider how God’s word reveals his heart for the abused and how we can grow in recognizing abuse and reflecting God’s care.
- When Honey Tastes Bitter
As “biblical counselors,” the Bible is the very adjective that describes us. Psalm 119 describes God’s Word as sweet like honey! But what if the verses we go to for wisdom or comfort feel bitter to the lips of those we are walking alongside? What if Scripture has been misused in the past to harm, coerce, or control tender hearts? How do we counsel biblically when the Bible hurts? And what about ourselves? If we’re honest, aren’t there places in the Bible that we struggle ourselves to experience as sweet? We might even, at times, feel some waves of shame by way of such close association with words that are so regularly misinterpreted and misunderstood. Let’s take an honest look together; exploring our own relationship with the truly good Word of God and ways we might share the inherent sweetness with others.
