Fund-a-Need

IMG_7349.jpeg

In 2025 we raised money, through our Fund-a-Need, for our elderly Russian speaking clients. JFS provides them with a way to connect with others and to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers. We strive to reduce social isolation and to provide them with the best care possible. In 2024, JFS implemented a new program, Community Connections, to provide socialization and community resources to elderly Russian speakers in St. Paul who have experienced trauma, many of whom are Holocaust survivors. Anita and Jim Dinerstein Community Service Award
Myndal Davis Silver

The Anita and Jim Dinerstein Community Service Award recognizes volunteers who best reflect the universal concept of volunteerism, serving as inspiration to others. This award was renamed in 2024 after the couple's daughters started an endowment to provide perpetual funding for JFS programs and operations.

In 2025 we honored Myndal Davis Silver with the Anita and Jim Dinerstein Community Service Award.

Myndal has been a dedicated volunteer with JFS for two decades, serving as a board and committee member. Myndal currently serves as a leader on the B’Yachad Committee. In addition, she is a tireless volunteer that you can find doing anything from mailings to gardening to answering the phones while assisting with spreadsheets. No job is too big or too small for Myndal; she is always willing to lend a hand. Myndal’s welcoming nature and years of dedication to JFS make her an outstanding recipient for the Anita and Jim Dinerstein Service Award.

Trailblazer Honoree
Rhoda Mains

Rhoda Mains.jpg

In 2025 we recognized Rhoda Mains as the Trailblazer Honoree. Rhoda was the first female board president at JFS from 1982-1985, 40 years ago, paving the way for other women to hold leadership positions. Rhoda has a remarkable background in community service within the Jewish community.

Extraordinary Service Honoree
Mitchell Wittenberg, JFS Counseling Director

Mitch - September 2023 resized.jpg

For over three decades, since 1993, Mitch contributed to the development of the JFS counseling program. Under his leadership, traditional counseling, community chaplaincy, support groups and specialized therapy for seniors has grown. The JFS counseling program is known for its excellence, is highly regarded throughout the community and almost always has a waiting list. There are a variety of reasons for this acclaim, but none more significant than Mitch. He is a consummate communicator. He listens intently and communicates practical and emotional feedback concisely and clearly. He has an uncanny ability to convince you that you can improve your life.

Mitch will be retiring at the end of May. In 2025, we had the pleasure of honoring Mitch for his many years of service at JFS.
