Did you know that a person experiencing homelessness walks an average of 10 MILES in a single day?
Some of those steps may be taken in an effort to access services at different offices across the city, travel from work to a shelter, or they may be taken as a precaution during the night to avoid victimization.
Like many urban centers, Atlanta is home to a large population of people experiencing homelessness. Extensive efforts have been made to both serve and assist the community, but there is still so much work to do. On any given day, over 2,000 people face the challenges of homelessness here in Atlanta.
And each day, they walk.
For food. For safety. For shelter.
The In Their Shoes: 10 Mile Challenge is a four week fundraising event in which participants of all ages, stages and skill levels walk a total of 10 miles at their own pace while reflecting on the distance people experiencing homelessness walk each day.
On April 21, 2024 all participants are invited to walk the last mile together at COAC’s headquarters in downtown Atlanta followed by a celebration.
