The future Hoosier Cold War Gallery inside the Cervantes Building will be the only permanent exhibit to focus on the Cold War in Indiana and one of only a handful across the U.S., making it vital to the story of our nation’s history. Within this space, history, art, and science will unite to give guests a greater understanding of the era that made America a superpower.

Regardless of their interest, the Gallery is designed to allow visitors to explore the exhibit in its entirety or choose their own adventure via the color-coded tracks to dive deeper into the story that is most interesting to them.

• Green Track – The Newspaper Man: Follow the newspaper headlines to learn about the historical moments and headlines that shaped the Cold War Era, from the Cuban Missile Crisis to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Stories locally, nationally, and globally will help guests understand how far-reaching the Cold War’s impact on American life truly was.
• (SAC) Yellow Track – Strategic Air Command: Using Bunker Hill/ Grissom Air Force Base as our lens, the story of the people who made peace their profession will bring a human face to the story of the Cold War. From its pilots to its clerks, SAC was at the front of the line in the defense of the country.
• (Hustler) Orange Track – The Science: The Cold War was a time of unprecedented scientific development, characterized by the creation of the B-58 program and the Space Race. Guests will learn how science and technology shaped military aviation and in turn morphed the U.S. into a world superpower.
• (Air Force) Blue Track – The Deep Dive: Following the Blue Track, guests will have a chance to dive deeper into the story of key moments and people of the Cold War. Special standalone exhibits will focus on the Space Race, the Bunker Hill/ Grissom AFB Broken Arrow Incident, and the crews that kept the B-58 safe.

The expected opening date of the Hoosier Cold War Gallery is late 2027 to early 2028. In addition to financial contributions, the GAM welcomes in-kind donations to make the Gallery a reality.
