About This Event
We are thrilled to invite all artists and patrons of the arts in Knoxville to the 3rd annual CAMC Madonnari Festival a.k.a. “CHESTERTON CHALK!” benefiting the Fine Arts Department of Chesterton Academy of St. Margaret Clitherow in Knoxville, Tennessee. “Madonnari” are classical street chalk artists, dating back to the Renaissance.
Schedule
● 7:30 A.M. - Registration/check-in opens (spaces are first come first serve)
● 8 A.M.-2 P.M. - Chalking Time
● 1 P.M. - Judging Begins
● 2-3 P.M. - Break
● 3 P.M. - Awards Announced
● 3:30-4 P.M. - Event Wrap-up
Prizes will be awarded for:
● Best-in-Show
● Best Adult Artwork
● Best High school
● Best Lower Grades (Elementary-Middle)
● NEW THIS YEAR: Best Classical Re-creation (Madonnari piece)
Artist Guidelines
All artwork must be family-friendly. Nudity and violent imagery is prohibited. If recreating a classical work, please credit the original artist. If recreating a photograph that is not your own, please credit the photographer. In keeping with the Madonnari tradition, classical and/or Judeo-Christian imagery is encouraged, but not required.
Chalk will be provided, and artists may bring extra chalk; however, it must be sidewalk chalk or chalk pastels/soft pastels. Absolutely NO oil pastels (as they don’t wash away). Use of tempera paint will result in disqualifi cation.

● Sunscreen
● Hat
● Sunglasses
● Masking Tape
● Thin Tarp (Cover artwork in case of rain)
● Measuring Tools
● Baby Wipes (to clean hands)
● Blending Tools
○ Pool Noodles
○ Paint Brushes
● Bottled Water
● Snacks
● Cushion (for hard pavement)
Inclement Weather/Rain:
In the event of weather conditions that won’t allow us to chalk outside on the event date, we will provide a rain date TBD.
Media Disclosure
Participants agree that photos of them or their art may be used for promotional purposes of the event and the school.
