Description:

The Chicago Prevention Alliance is proud to present its 2nd Annual Symposium, Shaping Futures: Strategies to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse. This one-day event unites prevention experts, educators, advocates, community members, and professionals to explore evidence-based approaches for preventing child sexual abuse.  

Featuring keynote speaker Ashley-Lauren Elrod, interactive workshops, and collaborative discussions, this symposium will provide participants with tools and insights to help create safer environments for youth and empower communities to protect them. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available.

The symposium will take place on January 29 at National Louis University, located at 122 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60603.

This symposium focuses on preventing child sexual abuse by:

  • Increasing awareness of the scope of child sexual abuse and evidence-based prevention strategies

  • Equipping participants to respond to concerning behaviors and promote healthy, respectful relationships

  • Providing practical tools participants can bring back to the children, families, and communities they serve

 

Participants will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the scope of child sexual abuse and key prevention approaches

  • Explore the future of child sexual abuse prevention at the local, state, and federal levels

  • Learn how to respond to problematic sexual behaviors and support healthy relationship development

  • Understand the connection between children’s sexual development and effective prevention efforts

  • Increase knowledge of how gender-based violence intersects with child sexual abuse prevention

  • Identify opportunities for creative, age-appropriate prevention curriculum development
