Meet at Asheville Botanical Garden Visitor's Center (indoor class)
Landscaping on steep slopes presents challenges that do not exist on flat land. Depending on the direction of your slope, there are significant differences in soil moisture, composition, and intensity of sunlight which impact the selection, establishment, and management of vegetation.
Learn how to better think about these challenges and get some tips on how to increase your odds of success in landscaping your slope with native plants.
Instructor: Drew Lathin is the owner of Mountain Native Landscape Design and a certified Blue Ridge Naturalist. He has been playing around with native plants in built landscapes for over 25 years as a native plant nursery manager, designer, installer, and consultant.
Utilizing ecological principles in his work, he is a fierce advocate for the need to re-wild our urban and suburban landscapes using native plants in thoughtful and legible designs to bring biological diversity and beauty to our everyday lives. More than 500 of his clients have rain gardens, prairie gardens, pollinator gardens, natural shorelines, and alternative lawns. Drew is the former President of the Board of the Wildflower Association of Michigan.
