CMS 2024 Festival

About This Event

It would not be August on the Eastern Shore without the joyous sounds of Chamber Music by the Sea delighting audiences throughout Worcester County. In its ninth season, which runs from August 4-10, the festival will bring many of the world’s most celebrated musicians to venues in Berlin and Snow Hill, both indoors and under the sun. From intimate salon concerts to open rehearsals and an outdoor family event, the 2024 festival has something for everyone.

Elena Urioste, founder and artistic director of Chamber Music by the Sea,

is especially excited about this year’s roster of musicians. “It’s not often that we get to meet and mingle with GRAMMY Award winners in our community, and this season we will have two of them here for the week.” Their talents will be showcased in venues that include Berlin’s historic Atlantic Hotel, Berlin Public Library, Temple Bat Yam, and the lawn of the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum, as well as Bishop’s Stock Gallery and All Hallows Episcopal Church in Snow Hill. “We want to see children dancing to Mozart and Mendelssohn as we did at last year’s family events, and to introduce music-lovers of all ages to remarkable composers who may be less familiar to them, like Prokofiev, Golijov, and Worcester County’s own Daniel Bowen, who is composing a brand new work that will receive its world premiere during the festival.” Add to that pianist and composer Tom Poster’s new encore arrangements for this summer’s musicians and a week of musical magic awaits.

The Royal Philharmonic Society and BBC award winning couple, Urioste and Poster, will be joined by several returning festival favorites: GRAMMY Award winning violinist Melissa White and tenor Karim Sulayman, New York Philharmonic principal clarinetist Anthony McGill, and Ithaca College viola professor Kyle Armbrust. New to the festival this year is Berlin (Germany)-based cellist Tony Rymer, internationally acclaimed as both a soloist and chamber musician.

Under the sponsorship of the Worcester County Education Foundation, generously funded by the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, and with support from the Ocean City Lioness Club and festival ticket sales, Chamber Music by the Sea continues its mission of introducing Worcester County public school students to the arts with year-round initiatives that include live in-school programs and Virtual Visiting Artist programs.
