Presented by Community Advocates

Health & Housing Insecurity Among Milwaukee County's Older Adults Presentation and Panel Discussion

Registration ends Monday, 04/20/2026 11:59pm CDT

About This Event

Housing insecurity and homelessness among older adults are an escalating public health crisis in Milwaukee County, with individuals aged 50 and older representing the fastest-growing population experiencing homelessness.

To better understand their needs and identify effective solutions, Community Advocates partnered with Medical College of Wisconsin to survey older adults facing housing instability, engage with community stakeholders, and develop recommendations to strengthen systems and services across Milwaukee County. This project was supported by a 2025 Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin seed grant.

Community Advocates invites you to join us for the release of these important findings and to explore pathways forward through a presentation and panel discussion.

Program Participants

Moderator: David Nelson, Ph.D., Project Academic Partner, Medical College of Wisconsin

Presenter: Katherine Kishline, Project Researcher

Panelists:

  • Bill Calawerts, MD MPH, MCW-North Side Family Medicine Residency, Outreach Community Health Center
  • Emily Kenney, LCSW, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Transformation, Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services
  • Matt Raymond, Supportive Housing Program Director, Community Advocates

Additional panelists to be announced.

Please plan to arrive early to allow time for parking and check-in before the program begins.

Special thanks go out to this project’s partners—Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

We’re also indebted to the more than 100 adults 50+ years old experiencing housing insecurity and more than a dozen stakeholders who shared their insights with us.

Several notable insights were gleaned from our research: not only the complexity of the challenges facing older adults experiencing homelessness, but the remarkable willingness of so many people to be part of addressing the issue and identifying solutions to move this work forward.

Please join us on April 28 to be part of this opportunity to make a real change in our community.
